Severe Tropical Cyclone Freddy (13U) was located near 14.4S 116.6 E at 2pm Tuesday, about 710 kilometres north of Karratha and was moving southwest at 20 kilometres per hour. It poses no threat to the Western Australian coast. Freddy has a High chance of remaining a tropical cyclone for the next seven days as it moves west over open waters. Tropical Low (11U) was located in the Indian Ocean near 13.5S 98.6E at 2pm WST Tuesday, about 240 kilometres southeast of the Cocos Islands and was moving southwest at 10 kilometres per hour. It poses no threat to the Cocos Islands or the WA coast. Tropical Low 11U is forecast to slowly intensify as it moves west. It has a Moderate chance of becoming a tropical cyclone on Wednesday, increasing to High for Thursday. The system is then expected to move out of the region (west of 90E) during Thursday or Friday morning. The chance of 11U being a tropical cyclone within the Western region decreases to Low for Friday and Very Low from Saturday onwards.
There are no other signficant systems in the region and none expected in the next five days.
The Western Region refers to the Indian Ocean between Longitudes 90-125E and south of 10S.
