Tropical Cyclone Outlook for the Western Region

Issued at 2:00 pm WST on Wednesday 8 February 2023
for the period until midnight WST Saturday 11 February 2023.

Existing Cyclones in the Western Region:

Severe Tropical Cyclone Freddy (13U) was located in the Indian Ocean, well off the Pilbara coast. It continues to move in a general west southwest direction, away from the coast. The cyclone poses no threat to the Western Australian coast. Freddy has a High chance of remaining a tropical cyclone in the region for the next seven days.

Potential Cyclones:


Tropical Low (11U) was located in the central Indian Ocean, well southwest of Cocos Islands, and continuing to move away. It is expected to move out of the region (west of 90E) by late Thursday. The chance of 11U being a tropical cyclone within the Western region decreases to Low on Friday 10th February and Very Low from Saturday 11th February onwards.
