Tropical Cyclone Outlook for the Western Region

Issued at 2:10 pm WST on Sunday 12 February 2023
for the period until midnight WST Wednesday 15 February 2023.

Existing Cyclones in the Western Region:

At 8am WST Sunday 10, Severe Tropical Cyclone Freddy, category 4, was located in the central Indian Ocean, 560 kilometres southeast of Cocos (Keeling) Islands and well away from the Western Australian coast. Severe Tropical Cyclone Freddy is forecast to continue to move west across the Indian Ocean. Freddy is expected to remain a tropical cyclone while in the Australian region. From Wednesday 15 February it is expected to be moving to the west of the Australian region. From Thursday the 16 February, Freddy is likely to be moving further west and the risk of being a tropical cyclone in the Australian region is Low. During Friday 17, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 February, Freddy is expected to be well west of the Australian region and ratings return to Very Low.
