Severe Windstorm Iu

Counterclockwise vortex 150px
Duration  –
Peak intensity Winds unknown

Severe Windstorm Iu triggered a High Wind Warning for Dutch Harbor, Unalaska. Hurricane force gusts were observed in Nikolski as the front crossed the eastern Aleutians. High winds were likely bolstered by the strong pressure gradient between Iu and a strengthening anticyclone in the Bering Strait. Iu also contributed to a prolonged period of ground blizzard conditions along the Kuskokwim Delta coast, where Kipnuk observed 30 knot winds, gusting to 40 knots with consistent quarter-mile visibility. Low visibility was also observed at inland locations in the Kuskokwim Delta, such as Bethel, but for a shorter time period <what day?>.

Severe Windstorm Olonkachx triggered a High Wind Warning for the western Aleutians. Shemya observed hurricane force gusts as high as 70 knots for 3 hours as the occluded front ahead of the low passed through. The front continued to be well-defined into the eastern Bering Sea, where it stalled on January 29 and set a daily maximum rainfall record in Cold Bay, along the Alaska Peninsula.
