Kulayak is a mountainous republic situated west of Blaist Blaland in a tract of land between a bay and a large mountain range. For most of its history it has been relatively isolated due to the mountains, which cut off contact with most of the modern western Blaist Blaland. Before the establishment of Blaist Blaland, Kulayak had varying relations with the scattered tribes in the Kulaya Mountains and the Republic of Ipakitan, ranging from skirmishes to alliances throughout history. Due to the long coastline and northwestern border, it has been more culturally affected by Barsein.
After a large war, Kulayak was invaded by Blaist Blaland and remained a puppet state for some years, until it was allowed to become a parlamentary republic. Since then, it has been lead by a pro-Blaist communist party and formed close ties with the Blaist bloc and Communist Universalis International, which has lead to Kulayak becoming more culturally tied to Blaist Blaland and also more developed, even though it is still a relatively poor country. Its main exports since the war have been unprocessed mining resources to Blaist Blaland, but a CUI program is helping the country develop an industry to process many of the resources at home.
